Manufacturers can pinched every penny with such a simple important component, all at the future cost to the consumer.  Begs the question, where else have they skimped to save manufacturing costs?  ...and at who's expense?

  • Welded on.  Difficult to replace worn, broken or rusty couplers. Manufacturer has saved themselves the cost of 2 bolts and drilling 2 holes.
  • Painted. Cheap and prone to rust and seized latching mechanism.  Accelerating the time for needed replacement.  
  • Note chains are also painted and welded on.  Adding to the cost and inconvenience of replacing.

 

We use quality Fulton Zinc couplers.  It's the most important link to your trailer.  So important that the law requires safety chains as an emergency backup.   

 

After 336 hours of salt spray testing.

Even cheap Chinese Zinc couplers, corrode and rust, causing the latch mechanism to seize.  Painted couplers fair much worst. Coupler failures, result in damage to towing vehicle and possible serious injury or death.
